The complaint against Kasra Sadr and the Car Law Firm on May the 20th, 2020 states that six car owners were allegedly targeted with alarming letters informing them that their vehicles have incurred structural damage. The lawsuit says that the letters asked them to urgently contact the sender, Defendant Car Law Firm, for a case review and vehicle history report.

According to the lawsuit, each letter sent to the Plaintiffs was personalized, including specific details about their make, model, year, and VIN. However, the Plaintiffs allegedly never granted this private information to the Defendants. The Plaintiffs allege that the only way the Defendants could have obtained this information is through the DMV, which they claim would be a violation of the law.

Plaintiffs alleged twelve causes of action against the defendants: “(1) Violations of the Driver’s Privacy Protection Act (“DPPA”) (18 U.S.C. §§ 2721 et seq.); (2) Violations of Cal. Veh. Code §§ 1808 et seq.; (3) Conversion; (4) Trespass to Personal Property;

(5) Intrusion into Private Affairs; (6) Negligence; (7) Civil Conspiracy; (8) Unjust

Enrichment; (9) Violations of False Advertising Law (Cal. Bus. & Prof. Code §§ 17500

et seq.); (10) Violations of Unfair Competition Law (Cal. Bus. & Prof. Code §§ 17200

et seq.); (11) Violation of Federal Right to Privacy; and (12) Declaratory Relief. ECF

No. 1.”
